Wow! I have been reeeeally lazy about the Soundopolis Newsletter because I've been reeeeally busy with a variety of projects!
In August we saw the release of "Nature's Fury", the ultimate collection of storm sounds including thunder, rain, and wind. You can buy the mega collection or individual "rain", "wind" and "thunder" libraries. Check those out HERE.
Creating a new sound design reel was very frustrating, so I did a little blog on the home page about that experience. The blog gives a few tips about making your own reel.
In the future I will be creating more blog posts about my work, so check back often!
Soundopolis is really excited to be taking part in the post-production sound editing of an internationally shot and produced film! Marty Shea of Detroit, MI is working on his second "CollabFeature" called Train Station. Essentially multiple independent filmmakers from around the world shoot various parts of a feature film with different casts and crews. It creates a really interesting mosaic of filmmaking styles in one feature film.
Soundopolis is creating and editing sound effects, and providing some Foley services.
Soundopolis has also been on a few sets in the past few months! In August I started sound mixing the feature film Liberty's Secret: The All-American Musical. Written and directed by University of Michigan professor, Andy Kirshner, this film is a political-satire musical, girl-meets-girl film. It is absolutely hilarious, and the music is just fantastic. This is my first time sound mixing a musical film, and its a great experience! We are currently shooting the last half of the film while workshopping it with film and audio students from The University of Michigan. Andy is a former professor of mine from 2008/09. It has been a great experience working along side him.
Andy Kirshner also invited me to do two lectures in his classes. The first was about Foley artistry, and the second was about production sound.
I have also lent my sound mixing skills to Microsoft, The Discovery Channel for a Smithsonian Institute display, Avalon Films, Carhartt Generations campaign, and academy award winning documentarian Cynthia Wade.
Hopefully I'll have a new sound effects library put together sometime early in the new year. If not, maybe I'll release a new FREE SFX collection. I know y'all love the free sound effects!
Oh, YEAH! And last year I had the pleasure of being boom-operator on Cawdor, starring Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, SAW, Robin Hood: Men in Tights). THE TRAILER IS FINALLY HERE AND IT LOOKS SWEEEEEET!
